Official Board Rules + Regulations   01/07/2010

<b>Official Board Rules + Regulations Hello and welcome to The Official LIGHTS Message Board! We hope you find this to be a friendly place to discuss LIGHTS and everything in-between. Please read on for some general rules and etiquette: 1. Post threads in their appropriate forums. Official News: Here you will find most of the recent LIGHTS news. For complete updates visit iamlights.com for more. Forum News: This forum is for all news and updates on the messages boards. Check this forum for updates on the board rules, how to contact the board admin/mods, and more. Help + Support: Having trouble with the boards or need help finding your way around? Post in this forum. New Member Lounge: New members please read this section to find forum rules, guidlines, etc. This section is reserved to talk about you so introduce yourself! If you are new to the boards, please remember to check the board rules. Welcome to the boards and we look forward to chatting with you! LIGHTS Discussion: This forum is for all discussion about LIGHTS, LIGHTS' music and her new album coming soon. See the Official News section for any updates on upcoming albums and new songs. Rumor threads will most likely be addressed by a board admin or mod, but are subject to being closed. Photos: LIGHTS related photo be shared here. Media: All video and other media links can be posted and discussed here. Tour & Shows: All of LIGHTS' tour dates and shows will be posted here. Meet other fans going to shows in your area and discuss all other show related details. Music: Use this forum to post about other musicians you enjoy. Please search the forum before posting. There is most likely a thread on your favorite artist/band you want to chat about. If there is no thread for your band/artist, then feel free to post. Movies & TV: This is the place to talk about your favorite movies. Please don’t double post about the same movie. For example, if there is a thread on Harry Potter and you have info on when it’s going to be available as a DVD, post in the “Harry Potter” thread instead of creating a new thread; however, each Harry Potter movie may have separate topics because of the different titles (that way there isn’t one massive Harry Potter Thread). General Entertainment: Post and discuss other entertainment topics with members here. General Discussion: Discuss whatever’s on your mind here. There’s everything from video games, pets, world events, and more. Creative Lounge: If you love to create web graphics, art, or photography, share your work here. Feel free to post graphic requests and even questions and tutorials here too. Pointless Fun: Looking for a game or to have some fun? Participate in forum games and join the fun! The Secret Clubhouse: This section is private and viewable only to registered members. Use this section to organize fan meetups or discuss personal topics. 2. What To Post: Please be considerate of all board members by thinking before you post. Make sure to use your search button or be willing to go back a few pages to see if something has already been posted so that the information isn't repeated time and time again! For example, when you see a thread discussing LIGHTS' latest video and you want to share your favorite part, please post in the existing thread rather than starting a new one. Asking questions isn't necessarily a bad thing; however, please use the search button first. Do not post the same thread in more than one forum. This will all keep the board less cluttered and help things to run more smoothly. Please post topics in their appropriate forums. If you posted a thread (that doesn't belong in the forum it was posted in) and it has suddenly disappeared, chances are it has been moved to the appropriate forum. Please look there and please DO NOT re-post a moved thread because you cannot find it. Also, feel free to refer back to the forum descriptions above when posting topics. If you aren’t sure where to post, come back here and re-read the info. Choose the forum that MOST relates to your topic. 3. Member Relationships: A lot of people here have become good friends. Some people are on here every day and have relationships outside of the boards. Do not expect to make friends over night. Don’t be afraid of posting or asking questions. We’re all here for the same reasons. Also, don’t hesitate to contact the board admin/mods. They’re here to answer your questions and make this message board a great place for all LIGHTS Fans to hang out. If you stick around though, you'll make friends and participate in a lot of fun activities. ** That said, please be extra cautious giving out any personal information. Additionally, do not post anyone else’s personal/private information on the boards. ** 4. Respect Board Members: Please be respectful of others. It is ok to have an opinion; however, it is not an invitation to bash someone. Disagreement is OK. Controversy is OK. Everyone can be respectful when they disagree. There is no need to get nasty over a disagreement. Keep in mind that people of all ages read these boards. Some people may kid around and be sarcastic, but I think people can generally decipher the difference. Provoking them will not solve anything and if they are bothersome to everyone (and its obvious), they will be taken care of. Report ANY thread you think a moderator should look at. Sometimes the board admin/mods might miss a thread. If you find spammers, obnoxious threads, or anything you think should be reported, send the mods/admin a message or report the thread (see below for more info on reporting posts). 5. Personal Attacks, Drama Llamas, and Trolls: Sometimes, disagreements can turn into personal conflicts. This can be classified as something going beyond a minor disagreement and it turning into something that can be handled outside of the boards. Please, try to avoid these, or they will be handled otherwise. However, if someone makes fun of you because you didn't read the above listed advice, that is NOT considered a personal attack. There is a difference. If it needs to be more clearly defined later, that can be arranged. Drama Llamas: It is easy to let disagreements that arise on the forum to other platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. Sure, its easy to passive aggressively post about a member you don't like. Please keep in mind that there is a fine line between expressing yourself and insulting people for attention. That type of drama doesn't do anyone any good. Also, information shared in confidence shouldn't be posted and passed around elsewhere. It becomes a game of hearsay and that instigates drama. 6. Closed/Deleted Threads: Please be aware that if you don't follow the rules, there will be consequences. It’s up to the discretion of the board admin and moderators. Threads/posts can get deleted, edited, or closed when deemed appropriate. Most likely there is an explanation why a thread has been closed; however, if you are unsure why one of your topics gets closed or deleted, contact the admin/mod that closed it. Threads/posts will ALMOST never be disposed of for an opinion. However, the option is always there for a thread to be deleted/edited (especially if it goes against the board regulations). 7. Reporting Posts: Do you see a post/thread with content that you think violates some of the rules listed above? Most of the time a board admin or mod will catch it. If it’s not closed or handled quickly, feel free to report the post. Although they try, it is not possible for admin/mods to view every post on every page all the time. Any help you can provide in helping us solve these problems is greatly appreciated. When reporting a post, please make sure to include a description why the admin/mod needs to address the thread or post. It will help them know what they are looking for instead of reading through pages of posts. If there are certain members causing trouble in a particular thread, make sure you include their usernames and why you think they should be reported. ** To report a post, use the Report button on the bottom-left hand side of each post. If you can’t find it and still want to report the thread, copy the thread link and send it in a message to the board admin/mods. ** 8. Signature Guidelines: For more information on signature guidelines, click here. 9. Spelling and Grammar: When posting, please make sure to double check your spelling. Additionally, please refrain from using text/AIM speak such as, "i wnt 2 tlk b4 tmrrw" or "idk y u r tlking lyke that". It's ok to use some terms like "lol", "bff" or other common abbreviations, but please don't compose a whole post like that. We appreciate your input and want to make sure that everyone can read it. Also, please don't use a large font or bright colors as your default posting settings. It's ok to use once in a while, but can make your posts difficult for members to read. 10. File Trading/Bootlegs: Discussion of how and where to obtain bootleg (illegally recorded) audios or videos is not allowed. Direct links to such files will be removed promptly and threads will be closed if it gets out of hand. Please keep such discussion segregated to private messages. If you're unsure whether or not something is a bootleg, here's a simple rule of thumb - if someone sitting in the audience recorded it, it's a bootleg. Officially recorded aired on television, radio, etc are perfectly acceptable. If you're still unsure, do not hesitate to contact a mod asking whether or not the audio/video you'd like to post is an illegal recording. This is both out of respect for LIGHTS and any other performers, as well as to conform to all applicable copyright laws. 11. Becoming a Board Mod: If you are interested in applying for a board mod position (or suggesting another member), please PM the board Admin for more information. You can also email your application to lightsnoise@gmail.com stating why you think you'd be a good moderator, any previous experience, etc. Only the board Admin has the ability to add new mods. Any threads about mods (ie suggesting members, bashing mods, etc) will be deleted. If you have concerns about the boards, either post them in the Help section or address it with another admin/mod. 12. Respect Board Mods and Administrators Mods and Admins are only doing their jobs to enforce rules. They are volunteers that are passionate about the community and help it to run. Disrespect towards mods will not be tolerated. However, if you feel they have acted harshly, please contact me privately and i will pass evaluate the issue. The mods are very nice people and if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact them. They are full of knowledge. 13. LIGHTS Private Life/ Personal Information LIGHTS deserves her privacy. As a result, discussing her personal relationships including rumors and speculations regarding her personal relationships are not allowed. LIGHTS gives us enough of herself through writing songs, performing, blogging/ tweeting, meeting fans, etc. She deserves to have something that's only hers. I believe that throwing out opinions on how we feel about her relationships cheapens it. She doesn't deserve to have her life critiqued by us let alone on HER official forum 14. LIGHTS on tour - M&G

Meet and Greets with LIGHTS.

It's something that has been causing some friction between fans and something needs to be said.

For one, meet and greets are never guaranteed. I think some people may automatically think that they will get to meet LIGHTS at any show they go to because of her dedication to all of us with doing a meet and greet at almost every show she has. I've been to alot of her shows, and every single time I always say to myself, I HOPE she does a meet and greet. I never go to a show with the expectation that I will meet her. It's always in the back of my mind that there is a possibility I might not be able to meet her. I've been fortunate enough that I got to meet and chat with her almost everytime I've seen her live, but this is only one fans perspective.

Lights loves ALL of her fans and I'm sure its upsetting to her that she can't meet every single one, every night. She has been on the road pretty much non-stop for almost two years, and 99% of the time she has meet and greets. Thats hundreds of shows, and hundreds of hours of meeting fans. If she can't make it to her merch table after her set, or have a quick signing before the show, you need to know that its not her fault.

I know its upsetting to fans when she is constantly doing meet and greets and then can't the night of their show, but just know not to take it out on her or anyone else. Depending on the city she is in, her agenda for the day can really limit her time. You don't know how much running around she does on a daily basis and everyone needs to understand that she does her best to do a meet and greet with every show, but sometimes it is just not possible. Just because she can't do a meet and greet doesn't mean you shouldn't show your support! Every single fans support means the world to her, you all have to remember that! She wouldn't even bother with meet and greets at all if she didn't care about us!

I know there will be a time when I will no longer be able to meet LIGHTS at her shows, but if anything people should look at it as a positive thing. It means that there aren't only 50 fans coming out to shows that love her anymore, its because there are hundreds, and thousands of fans that want the oppurtunity to meet their idol. Although its fun to joke around calling her a superhero, in reality LIGHTS is only human, it wouldn't be possible for her to sit there every night and meet thousands of people.

I think LIGHTS is extremely generous with the time she gives her fans at shows. We all love her dearly for this, and this is obviously a topic that really upsets her. Let's not make her even more upset about the situation and make her think that we are ungrateful for what she has given us all already. We should all be thankful for the time she is up on stage, and meeting her should just be an extra bonus!

Remember, some people will never even get the oppurtunity to see her perform live! If you have seen her live, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. ;)

Thank you LIGHTS for everything that you do.

We LOVE you.

-Kayla

Well said Kayla! I think it's good to get all this out in the open and deal with it instead of seeing all the threads pop up about people not getting to meet her.

Look, I know I got lucky meeting her in NYC but that's exactly what it was, luck. If I hadn't decided to fly almost 3000 miles to see my friends, then I wouldn't have gotten to meet her on this tour either. What happened pretty much defines blind luck.

I know that all of you love her, and are understandably disappointed when you can't meet her, but like it has been said, sometimes meeting fans just isn't possible.

Do you want to get her so upset and frustrated that she withdraws from us? If we as a group keep acting like this, I'm afraid that's what's going to happen. That would be a tragedy. LIGHTS has been so good to us, how many other artists do you know who tweet to her fans almost all the time? She makes as much time for us as she can, let's be grateful for it. The girl has a lot to deal with and we should be out there supporting her, not grousing about what we think she should be doing for us.

I want LIGHTS to be happy, successful and to have a long, long career so I can enjoy the magic that is her music for years to come. If she gets stressed out about things like this, it could have a real effect on her happiness, success and career.

When you're sad when you couldn't meet her, or didn't get a tweet, or whatever. Please know that she still cares, and be patient. Likely your time will come, and it will be better because it wasn't something you guilted her in to doing.

Bravo ma'am. Bravo.

Plus, you have to remember, if every single fan got to meet her every single time they went to a concert, then it wouldn't be so special, now would it? That's why you can just keep enjoying what you have and when your day comes, you can enjoy the heck out of it.

I did not take the time to read all of this, but I know where it was headed. Unfortunately the Tempe show didn't get a M&G but she did let us know that she was sorry and that time wasn't on her side which is totally understandable. Someday...

Thank you for posting this Kayla. I saw her tweet to Jeremy about how if she never did M&Gs people wouldn't complain about her not doing them, but since she does them as often as she can people complain when it can't happen. It's unfortunate that some can ruin it for many, and I don't like to think that Lights thinks her fans are mad at her for not doing a M&G here and there. She puts so much effort into meeting fans and we need to be appreciate of that. I can't think of anyone else that tweets her fans and does M&Gs at almost every show, so people should be counting their blessings. If we all love Lights and respect her hard work, why would we be mad that she wants to take a break (for once)??

Kayla is really spot on. We all try to do our best and it really upsets me when people don't understand everything that goes on during a tour. The more people complain, it makes it seem like we shouldn't have M&Gs at all.

Meet and greets are RANDOM. that's why we tweet to everyone through my twitter account and LIGHTS'.

Some people have brought up the "caste system" and that simply isn't true. Yes, people volunteered to help pass out stuff at shows. The least i could do was to reward them with a meet and greet pass. I saw Katie Bradshaw passing out download cards for me not at one but TWO shows. She never volunteered because she wanted to meet LIGHTS. she just did it because she was a fan. The same goes to Kayla, Jim, and all the others that volunteered- they don't help because they expect something out of it. We call ourselves TEAM LIGHTS, LIGHTS ARMY, LASers, etc because we support LIGHTS regardless. As for NY, LIGHTS wanted to meet her guild- her friends that she games online with. People flew out, drove, etc for the show and she took time away from seeing her business team to meet with them.

This post is well said and I hope it is able to be a real eye opener for some.

Unfortunately she had no M&G at the Toronto show and I was a little down about it as I have been to quite the few LIGHTS events over the past month and still have not met her even once. I just keep trying to believe that there is always hope for next time. Lights is just like you and I, she cannot do it all, and if she could, we all know she would because that's just the kind hearted person she is. It seems she loves nothing more than meeting the faces that support her and her music. So we all just have to understand and respect that she has a busy life that she has to tend to as well. I love Lights and can only keep my face up and be positive that I will get to have that one day where I can finally meet my idol and hero, Lights.

This definitely needed to be said. Thx Kayla LIGHTS-Love! :D

It saddens me that people don't understand these concepts.

Love you LIGHTS. No matter what! <33

Thank you for posting this! I think it's kinda selfish and ungrateful when ppl get upset for not being able to meet her. I know that she loves all her fans the same, no exceptions!

I've been extremely fortunate to meet her a few times, but if it never happens again, I'd be bummed (obvs) but that's ok!

I think this really needed to have been said, and I'm glad you brought it up Kayla!

Thanks for saying this, it's been pretty upsetting seeing people getting disappointed with Lights over M&Gs. She works sooo hard for us all, I can't think of another person who meets as many fans as her!

Ok I have an (hopefully) uplifting story with her meet 'n'greets. I was very fortunate to see her last October in Cambridge, MA. Like usual, I had no expectations of how the evening would end so I played things by ear. After the  show a queue started to form at the merch table. I sat around and waited patiently til the line got shorter. Finally my turn, got my poster, my pic, my shirt, exchanged a few pleasant words. One of the best evenings ever. What I'm trying to get across is that Lights stayed and waited until every single fan in that room got to meet her. I'm talking about well over a hundred people. All this in spite of the fact that she would be doing press, interviews, a show + other promo in NYC the next couple of days. One of the things I love about Lights as an artist is that she's very accessible to her fans. I mean don't get me wrong, I don't expect bands like Depeche Mode & U2 to be accessible to their fans in this day and age. But even with newer bands these days (I won't defame any bands here), but some of the bands that have been around a few short years have inflated egos and actually make an effort to avoid any sort of fan interaction (I've witnessed this myself so I'm not making it up). Dear Lights, if you read this, please don't be discouraged by all the negativity surrounding the issue of meet and greets. Keep doing what you do, we all love you dearly no matter what<3

EDIT: I learned through a reliable source last year that Lights is the one that actually wants to do the M & G's....no one pressured her or forced her into doing them, that says a lot:D

Kayla, you hit every single thing that had to be said.

Like Kayla's post said, there are people that won't even get to see her play music live, so, if you get to go see her live, you're flippin lucky as hail!

She tries so hard already without us asking, asking more of her would be crazy because she does so much already.

Well said Kayla :).

Everyone should just be happy to see LIGHTS live and enjoy the experience, lots of people here haven't even got the chance to go to a concert and I feel for them :(. The M&G is a bonus if she has time. She shouldn't be forced to do one if it compromises her rest or other scheduled events. I have a feeling her rumoured headlining tour in the fall will be even tougher to do M&G's (especially in Canada, her last time through you had to buy a special M&G ticket which I hope is the way they go again this time around), but we shouldn't be discouraged and just enjoy going to the concert and meeting other fans.
