better late than never....
hi all, I discovered LIGHTS in February quite randomly but I missed her while she was in Paris so I was quite looking forward to see her for the first time at the Borderline in London. I arrived at the venue approximately one hour before the doors opened and there was already like 50 people in line. I was fairly new to her music, i didn't check any youtube videos like I usually do so I didn't quite know what to expect, but I thought I really needed to take the train from Paris and I love going to London anyway. In fact, i love travelling, going to concerts and photography so I usually do them all at once. But i didn't know that the camera policy had changed at the Borderline and I was a bit disappointed that I had to leave my big camera but that was okay because I could really focus on the show. I went to the far left near the bar. LIGHTS came on stage high-fiving some people, she was all smiles and she seemed to recognize a lot of people in the audience because she said something like "there are fans from Germany... Holland..." I didn't really know the songs yet but I recognized and loved Saviour or Ice and basically i felt that she was very sweet. Usually I'm not so much into the electro rock type of music but LIGHTS seems to be the exception because she has amazing songs, a gorgeous voice and a charming presence on stage. I was also surprised how enthusiastic her fans were, singing in unison on many songs. There was really a great atmosphere as it is often the case at the Borderline. The show lasted an hour or so but it felt like it was only like five minutes.
After this great show, there was a lot of people already at the merch table and I was wondering if i wanted to stay and try to meet LIGHTS or leave because I had a very early train the next morning. LIGHTS came out quickly so I logically decided to go into the line. I was taking pics of the meet and greet and once again i was surprised that LIGHTS recognized almost everyone she met and seemed genuinely nice to them. i mean, there are many artists who do the meet and greets but it's usually very business-like but in the case of LIGHTS, she welcomes you and actually takes the time to talk to you and makes you feel comfortable. When it was my turn, I hadn't got much to say and there was still a lot of people waiting so i chose to be quick and efficient, business-like hahaha. For me it's quite easy because I use the same entrance phrase : "hi, i'm from Paris" and then the artist takes over hehe. Well, i thanked her for the beautiful show, I told her that I came from Paris. While talking to her, I just felt like I felt in the line : LIGHTS is just adorable and cute. At one point, i couldn't help but say "I want to see you again !" At the end, she told me she would come to Paris so i wouldn't have to travel next time, which is very kind of her. But I really don't mind travelling to see an artist as nice and talented like LIGHTS. So then I said goodbye, I left the venue, without forgetting my bridge camera and I was really happy about this night.
I posted some pictures from the show (I used another little camera that is not quite as good as the big one) and the meet and greet on my flick page
Also I discovered this forum shortly after the show and everyone seems very nice and respectful so I felt compelled to write a little something. Sorry, it's kind of long but i also like writing. Hopefully LIGHTS will come back soon in Europe because I will gladly see her again.
